It's a good article to share with those who claim to be concerned about social justice.
The lawyer fees were in the millions of dollars, but it looks like they picked very good lawyers. The judge who wrote the opinion below repeatedly slammed Oberlin's lawyers in it for their mistakes and omissions.
Through Oberlin's statements on the case I found a list of organizations that had submitted amicus curiae briefs on behalf of Oberlin. Most of them are media trade and professional associations and corporate owners, and they really cover a huge swath of the mainstream media.
Oberlin published a strategic re-visioning report in 2019. Apparently they've been drawing on their endowment money to balance the budget for years, and they now need to be much more deliberate about staffing and programs and expenses and farming the students for operating income.
Yesterday they announced they would pay the $36 million judgment.
