If You Care About Black America, Stop Supporting Bl**k Li**s Ma**er
Just when I started to think about the proper path forward, the other shoe dropped; the demand shifted. Cries of justice morphed into ‘Defund the police’. We started to hear a litany of white Americans say we must do something to help ease the difficulties blacks are facing. On the surface this seems like a good thing, the intentions definitely were, but the problem is with no context or reference to what is needed in the black community, and few black friends or colleagues to consult, they decided to donate money to the squeakiest wheel, Bl**k Li**s Ma**er.

While the organization was started by three black women, when you focus on how they plan to achieve equality for blacks, they desperately miss the mark. In the ‘What We Believe’ section of their site, they highlight space for transgendered people and the work they do to ‘dismantle cisgender privilege’. They also want to ‘disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure’ (something we should be promoting). It goes on to talk about ageism, queer-affirming, sexism, and practicing empathy; whatever that means. You may find some of these sentiments to be positive, but not one creates positive change in the black community.
