I really wanted to make a video tonight, but it didn't work out. I hope to make one tomorrow.
Here is what I hope people are taking seriously.
I've been watching this develop for many weeks. I watch the numbers daily. I've been watching the trends. This is my OPINION of what is going on and is about to unfold. I may be wrong and if I am you can come back in a few weeks or a month and tell me I was wrong. I will be HAPPY to be told I was wrong. If I'm right, I hope you consider what I have to say.
Once the USA releases the 1.5 million tests, the attitudes in this country are going to change rapidly. Unless the USA is somehow some kind of outlier in this for reasons I can't see at this point, there are a lot of infected people already walking around. There are probably already multiple clusters in the country. If community spread has started, all bets are off.
If you look at what is happening in Seattle, you can see what is going to happen across this country. Locals said it feels like a ghost town. Italy, South Korea, and on and on. The UK said they expect 20% of the workforce to be out sick when this really hits their country. Schools are closed for anywhere from two weeks to six weeks in various countries.
On top of that, India is shutting down the export of certain medications. I've been saying for weeks that there will be shortages. When leaders have to choose what to do, they are going to protect their own people. Nationalism isn't just a Trump thing or a Brexit thing. It's a natural response that normal and healthy countries and their leaders have. Germany is stopping the export of certain medical supplies. Our over-reliance on other countries is going to become much more obvious if these things progress in this way.
If you need things, get them NOW. TODAY. Once the test results start coming out, we're going to see repeats of what is unfolding in other parts of the world and now on the west coast. People flocking to shop, long lines, school closings, people working from home, and events being canceled. Google just canceled their biggest international event of the year that is two months out. Sports teams in other countries are playing in empty stadiums. This is what is coming here as well. Prepare accordingly.
I don't mean to sound like an alarmist, but I haven't seen any reason to believe that somehow the USA is going to be the outlier in this. The lack of testing has only given off a false sense of security.
Once the test results start coming out next week and the number of deaths start to rise in the next few weeks, it's going to get intense in the USA as people seek to place blame, etc. There are new estimates out today that the death rate is much higher than first thought and there are not enough beds and specialists to deal with all of this if it peaks rapidly. I think the leadership is making a big mistake in not urging more people to choose to stay home already.
Your best protection is to minimize your exposure to the public as much as possible and not get sick at all.
I hope I'm wrong. I truly do. But we've made the decision as a family to drastically reduce the time we spend in public starting tomorrow. We are going to pull way back and wait to see how this develops over the next 7-10 days.
