When compiling the top 10 posts of 2016, it was fascinating to see which ones were the most popular with readers. As long as I’ve been blogging, I still can’t always predict which posts will really stand out in a meaningful way for the people who read what I write.

These are the posts published in 2016 that were the most read. Enjoy!

10. My Child Hates Phonics

As much as everyone likes to say that phonics is essential for a good education, phonics simply doesn’t work for some learners. In fact, some children truly hate phonics because it isn’t how their brain is wired to work. I explain our experience with this in My Child Hates Phonics.

9. Organizing Homeschool Paperwork in Binders

Homeschool paperwork has been the bane of my existence. I finally found what worked for me and show you how to do it (including a free printable to download and use). Organizing Homeschool Paperwork in Binders makes it very easy!

8. Discipling Children in Christ Outside the Box

We don’t homeschool in a traditional way. We don’t parent in a traditional way. And we don’t raise our daughter in the faith in a traditional way. Here are some thought-provoking ideas regarding Discipling Children in Christ Outside the Box.

7. How We Ended Up (Almost) Unschoolers

I never in a million years would have expected we would be (almost) unschoolers. But we are. I explain more in How We Ended Up (Almost) Homeschoolers.

6. 6 Ways Having a Gifted Child Changed My Life

I knew becoming a parent would change my life. But I had no idea what would drive a great deal of that change. I explain this in 6 Ways Having a Gifted Child Changed My Life.

5. 100 Wholesome Books for Girls and Tweens

It can be challenging to find wholesome books for girls. There is so much junk out there. Here’s my list of 100 Wholesome Books for Girls and Tweens to help you find some new ideas!

4. The Loneliness of Homeschooling a Gifted Child

Homeschooling can be lonely. Homeschooling a gifted child can be an even lonelier experience. Sometimes it’s really challenging to find people who “get” your situation which I explain in The Loneliness of Homeschooling a Gifted Child.

3. The Real Phases of the Homeschool Year

Do you know the real phases of the homeschool year? Almost every homeschooler experiences these and if you know what to expect it can make your year a bit easier. You can also download a free printable that shows The Real Phases of the Homeschool Year.

2. 101 Ways to Simplify Your Homeschool

I am all about simplifying life whenever possible and this includes homeschooling. Here are 101 Ways to Simplify Your Homeschool.

1.  Printable Planners and Homeschool Planners

I confess I was surprised this was the top post of 2016. Surprised, but thankful. I think I’ve created some beautiful and practical planners so I’m happy to share them with as many people as possible. You can see my Printable Planners and Homeschool Planners here. (The 2017 planners will be available this week!)
