How Much Did a Charlotte Mason Education Cost? from Simply Charlotte Mason
You might be surprised by the answer!
I’ve been working on an interesting project the last few weeks. It all started when I was looking at some old pamphlets and programmes in the Charlotte Mason digital archives (which is a fabulous resource, by the way). The programmes detail the work that students were to do each term and the books that they were to use.
One pamphlet in particular caught my eye. It was all about the “practical working” of the Parents’ National Educational Union, or PNEU, which was Charlotte’s organization for all who were interested in their children’s education.
I kept seeing references to Fees. Soon my curiosity started stirring and an idea started niggling in the back of my head: “I wonder what it cost to homeschool back in Charlotte’s day with her curriculum.”

When Being ‘Relatable’ Does Damage from The Gospel Coalition
In a digital world where filters reign and manicured feeds rule, relatability is often an antidote. It’s a way of pulling back the curtain on all those perfect images and saying the obvious: laundry exists, we have bad days, work is work, we’re often the punchline to a joke we weren’t intending to tell, and we’re all in it together.
At its best, relatability is a transparent humility that aims to serve others by providing a starting point for relationship. At its worst, it’s a longing for others to relate to our sin in a way that minimizes it. It’s a species of manipulation.
Isle of Sark: Europe’s Last Feudal State from Amusing Planet
Sark is a small island within the Bailiwick of Guernsey in southwestern English Channel, 25 miles off the French coast of Normandy. The isle was under Europe’s feudal system for the last 440 years until the very recent 2008, when the tiny island held its first democratic election. Together with the other Channel Islands, Sark is the last remnant of the former Duchy of Normandy still belonging to the Crown, and the last feudal state of the western world. With no cars, no street lights and no divorce, this tiny speck of land is one of the most peaceful and uncontaminated areas of the old continent.
Beautiful Feet Curriculum Reviews – History of Classical Music from Sallie Borrink
I’ve known of Beautiful Feet Books for some time and have always admired their gorgeous collections of books and related materials. I’m sure you can imagine my joy when I was presented with the opportunity to receive a pack to review as part of a group of Beautiful Feet curriculum reviews! I requested the History of Classical Music Pack which is designed for grades 4-8. We enjoy classical music in our home and we frequently bring things up in an unschoolerish kind of way, but I’ve never done anything formally with music as part of our homeschooling. However, we’re to the point in our journey where this is a good time and good fit so we’re doing this unit as a family!
Caroline and I love this YouTube channel. We watch every video as soon as it drops. Caroline said, “I always feel like cooking or making something after I watch one of her videos.” LOL! I believe it’s because we were created to create and work, not “manage life” the way we do now.
Here is a sampling of what she does.
