Are you ready for living and thriving in the Grand Solar Minimum? I hope so. In fact, I hope it so much that I have created an entire website devoted to this. The idea actually came from my brother, Craig. It brings together several things we’ve been discussing in recent months as well as our different areas of expertise.
Craig specializes in the gardening disciplines of Season Extension, Intensive Regenerative Farming, and Seed Saving. When he joined Gab in January, he started making posts and videos to share his vast experience and knowledge. People enjoyed them and asked lots of questions. A few weeks ago, he asked me if I would like to use them on a website about the Grand Solar Minimum (GSM).
Grand Solar Minimum is a topic he and I have been discussing the past few months. I’ve brought it up before on this site in relation to my Prudent & Prepared Homemaker series so I’ve been aware of it for a few years. (At one point I even made a video about it, but I’m not sure if it is still on my site.) I’ve kept my eyes open for news about it where I could find it.
The farming methods Craig has learned over the past twenty years are an excellent match for the possible impacts agriculture will see in the coming years due to the GSM. His interest is teaching people new skills that help them with their gardening, something he’s done many times in in-person seminars. My skills are all of the behind the scenes (website, SEO, writing, editing, social media, etc.) as well as researching and writing content specifically about the Grand Solar Minimum.
So we discussed possible names and, in the end, came up with Grand Solar Minimum Living as the best expression of what we want to accomplish. It is not a doomsday website. In fact, it is just the opposite. It is about sorting fact from fiction and practical ways to adapt.
If you or someone you know is interested in the types of gardening and farming my brother does, this will be a goldmine of information. We’ve only just started. I have another fifteen video posts to add and Craig says he has a list of another hundred right now to do. We are truly building an extensive library of written and video information for people. Even if the GSM ends up being less disruptive than we anticipate, the garden and farming information is still valid and helpful. Either way, this is a helpful and practical website we’re putting together.
So at this point, there is one post I wrote called The Beginner’s Guide To The Grand Solar Minimum. The rest are focusing on various aspects of gardening, foraging, etc. You’ll see from the menu that we plan on expanding the content quite a bit into other topics such as House & Home, Food Storage, Home Business, etc. It truly will be about living and thriving during the Grand Solar Minimum, a period of time that we are likely already in and that will probably last 40-50 years.
Researching for the site is truly fascinating. It brings together two of my favorite topics – history and weather. There will be many interesting non-gardening posts in the months ahead.
If you are asking yourself why you haven’t heard about this in the media, I would ask you to answer your own question. Why do you think? The goal of Grand Solar Minimum Living is to make people think. So ask yourself this. If we have entered into a once-in-400-year event that will last 40-50 years, why hasn’t the mainstream media covered it? I answer part of that question in the post I linked to above. But ask yourself why. See if you can figure it out before you click over and read.
I hope you enjoy the website. Please do share it with others. If you have any specific questions about any of the topics or suggestions for future posts, feel free to leave a comment over there and let us know.
