Last fall, I wrote a handful of posts about culture and politics. We had some great discussions about the Kavanaugh hearing (and the aftermath), feminism, and the mid-term elections.
After the election I decided to stop posting about politics here because it didn’t fit with my ultimate goal of creating a beautiful place of peace, understanding, and joy.
Disconnecting from Politics
In fact, I disconnected from politics. I unsubscribed from almost everyone I was following on Twitter related to politics and stopped following almost all the news. To what degree did I disconnect?
At one point a week or so ago I asked David if anyone from the caravan got into the country.
Yes, that’s how much I disconnected.
I needed to think about other things such as redesigning this website, creating wonderful content and printables, and my Gen X retirement planning website.
Then I got back into culture and politics over the past week when a YouTube video of Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson explaining why they were leaving Patreon showed up in my YouTube feed (because I missed all of the brouhaha over the Patreon purge that happened in December).
That got my radar back up for all kinds of things cultural and political.
So I’ve been trying to decide what to do.
Politics is absolutely off the table on this site. There will be no more politics on this site.
But I find some great stuff that I like to share and discuss so I created a place to do so.
Finding the Truth in the Noise
If you liked the posts I did about politics and culture, you can check out Finding the Truth in the Noise. I may write some long form posts on there, but I plan on keeping it timely and lean. So I’ll be dropping links, videos, tweets, etc. as I find them without the need for pretty graphics. The point was to make it easy to share things as I find them without being dependent on David to create graphics for me because sometimes he’s simply too busy with business clients to do so.
There currently isn’t an opt-in freebie or anything. I’m not even thinking about a mailing list at this point (although I may in the future). If you want to keep up with what’s there, you’ll need to add it to your blog list or Feedly or whatever you use.
I’ve moved my politics and culture posts that were on this site over there. If you commented on one of those posts and you want your comment removed, leave a comment to tell me that on the post (or posts) where they are and I will remove any you would like removed. I hope that won’t be the case because we had some good discussions, but I want people to know I am more than willing to remove them if you wish since they are now of a different site.
If you know people who are trying to search for the truth amidst the noisy insanity, feel free to send them to the site.
I hope the site provides helpful information for those who like to be informed, but don’t want to sort through the noise to find the good stuff. I also hope to see some of you over there for some good discussions!
