So this week I really focused in on a few of these goals. As a result, I made a lot less progress on many of them. But that’s okay. As long as I’m working on things on this list, I’m moving forward with my goals for the year.
So here’s what I accomplished.
Goal 1: Have 20 minutes of Bible, prayer, and quiet time each day.
- Bible reading done every day. I did not keep track of how many extended quiet times I had. Not enough of them. Am I the only one who struggles with this?
Goal 2: Read 20 books.
- I have a reading tickler list page that you can see. I’m still working on the same book (A Sweet Girl Graduate) and haven’t done much reading in books lately.
Goal 3: Write 20 personal letters and send via snail mail.
- I sent out 4 personal notes last week! So I’ve completed 4 out of 20 for the year.
Goal 4: Clean out, label, and organize 20 years worth of digital photos.
- I took a break from this.
Goal 5: Lose 20 pounds.
- No progress because no effort. Funny how that works.
Goal 6: Lose 20 inches
- Down one inch.
Goal 7: Walk 200 miles.
- I refilled my expired inhaler just in case. Otherwise, no walking progress.
Goal 8: Go on one bookstore/coffee shop night out each quarter as a family.
- Not yet
Goal 9: Find 20 new EoE-friendly foods and/or recipes for myself.
- Nope
Goal 10: Clear out the basement once and for all and finally have a crafting area I can use.
- I did spend a few hours working on this, mostly sorting papers, greeting cards, etc. Does anyone else have an issue with greeting cards?
Goal 11: Increase our family income by 40%.
- Spent a lot of time working on this goal including the site redesign. (I hope you like it!)
Goal 12: Reduce our family debt by 20%.
- Nothing to report. This will probably be something I report on only once or quarter or something.
Goal 13: Create 100 new products for my shop.
- Not yet. David is swamped so I’ve been working on cleaning up what is already in my printables shop.
Goal 14: Pin 10 posts, pages, or products from my site to my Pinterest boards 3 days a week.
- I don’t think I met this goal.
Goal 15: Add 20 new pieces of content to the forums each week.
- I didn’t count, but it was probably close.
Goal 16: Learn how to process and watermark photos for my site.
- Not yet
Goal 17: Create 1 product all by my big self (as little Caroline would say).
- Not yet
Goal 18: Add 20 unit study posts to my site.
- Nope
Goal 19: Record and release 10 podcast episodes.
- Nope
Goal 20: Leave 10 comments each week on other blogs.
- No, but I did finally catch up on replying to all the lovely comments on my own site. Now I’ll try to start encouraging other bloggers!
So what did you accomplish toward your 2020 goals this week? If you haven’t set any, there is still PLENTY of time! Jump in! It’s only January 22. You still have 344 days ahead of you! You even get that extra Leap Year day this year!

Hi Sally,
I’m a long time reader…..you sent me your “Above Rubies” Magazines years ago (may have been when you had your “Two Talent Living” site!)
I wanted to comment on goal #1. I struggled in this area for so long, but now find it to be priority #1 in my day (and life!) A few things I’ve found to be helpful.
~ Being in a place of desperation for God seemed to be a starting point for me (long story there, but definitely a significant moment for me)
~ I started a daily gratitude list. I began w/ 3 things a day ~ Now I list 5 at least~ and I just listed #7,778 this morning! This has been amazing therapy! And free!
~And journaling has been a key part. I was so hesitant to journal (what if someone sees this!) but it has become essential along w/ God’s Word. The book, “Ordering Your Private World” by Gordon McDonald has been so influential. This book really helped me to get the “Quiet Time” thing down and helped me fix my priorities. It’s probably time for a re-read 🙂 Anyway, I can’t recommend it enough.
Sorry, so long-winded! Always enjoy your writing and encouragement!

Goal #1 – struggle with it all the time. I find myself always willing, but have a hard time following through. It’s very frustrating that i am so week.
Goal #2 – mine is 52, one per week. So far so good, this includes audio books or i would never meet this goal ?
Otherwise, you have some serious goals. You’ve given me lots to think about.
Hi Edith,
Thank you for your comment. I took at peek at your blog and oh my. That Lace Cabin quilt is gorgeous! I like how you made the matching pillow covers. We have a beautiful quilt David’s grandmother made us for a wedding gift. She made one for each of her (many) grandchildren and we were able to pick the colors and design. Our is greens and purples and it’s beautiful. But I have never used it on our bed because the bed just looks unfinished with it on there. It isn’t big enough to cover a pile of pillows at the top. I wish I had asked her all those years ago if she would make matching pillow shams or covers, but I never thought of it at the time. I’ve thought about hanging the quilt on a wall, but our house has so many windows and doorways that there is really no place to hang it. So it is in my cedar chest and I feel badly about that. Anyway, the matching pillow covers on yours popped right out at me because of my dilemma. LOL!

ETA: You can see it in a picture here, but the pictures don’t do it justice. The colors are very rich in real life.

Hi deb h,
Yes, I do remember you. Wow. “Above Rubies” magazines. That was a REALLY long time ago.
Thank you for your suggestions. I do appreciate them.
I’ve kept a gratitude journal for most of the past two decades with the exception of a few years when Caroline was younger. It is a very good practice. I do mine each evening in bed so I focus on good things that happened that day before I go to sleep. No matter how difficult or long the day was there are always three things to be thankful for – even if it is just the fact that it’s time to go to sleep. LOL!
I was a prolific journal keeper until I developed neck and shoulder issues a few years before Caroline was born. No amount of physical therapy, medical massage, or chiropractic treatment has been able to give me the ability to write by hand for extended periods of time, hold a regular book for more than a few minutes, or do other normal tasks such as ironing. I do miss it but it’s not worth the physical set backs. Journaling on a computer isn’t the same either.
I think it really boils down to I just don’t get enough time alone and I don’t decompress quickly. I know that sounds like a lame excuse, but for someone who lives in her head so much of the time, it’s a real struggle.
From the moment I get out of bed some one is up (David) until the time I turn off my light someone is up (David and Caroline). I’m already struggling to get enough sleep because Caroline is such a night owl (like many gifted/2e teens) and so I tend to keep going until she’s asleep and I can be alone with my thoughts for 20-30 minutes. But when she’s up until midnight then I’m often not asleep until almost 1:00 a.m. We get up between 6:30 and 7:00. I am already skimping on sleep which is a major no-no for me so to get up earlier or stay up later isn’t an option. If anything, I need more sleep.
I’m just muddling through as best I can and trusting God understands. I do pray at times throughout the day and we pray at times as a family. But I’m aware of my dependence on God to get me through, guide me, and take are of my family. He knows my heart and I have to trust He is gracious to me in this area of my life.
I hope that makes sense.
Sallie
Yes, makes total sense. So much grace in this area for sure. It’s a journey ( a very personal one)…..God knows where we are at and He’s not about adding one more thing for us to do. Maybe His desire is to have our time with Him be something we “get to do” as opposed to something we “have to do”. A source of strength for our day rather than something to be checked off. Things to ponder anyway. And sleep is definitely essential-I’m with you there 🙂
~hugs~ Deb
Progress is great! I love the new site design. It certainly makes me dream of Spring!
Hi Amanda,
I’m glad you like the new design. 🙂
